BC: How did you get your start as a model?
LT: I had a few false starts, my first introduction was around 14, after being scouted by a photographer, but I didn’t make a proper career out of it till I signed with Chic at about 19yrs of age. Paul Thomas at Chic, (who is still my booker), saw the potential in a very bushy-haired, slightly daggy girl from the suburbs and turned what I thought would be a hobby into a 16yr long career.
BC: You have been in the industry for a long time in model terms, what do you attribute your longevity to?
LT: I ain’t a quitter... haha, honestly I think I’m a creature of habit and slightly lazy. I had a great team behind me at the start and I think being easy to work with, combined with a sense of humor, will take you further than just having decent looks. End of the day a pretty brunette is a dime a dozen but if you become friends with the people you work with they’ll want to book you...so yeah nepotism! I did make an effort though to look after myself from the inside out, all things in moderation, and don’t take yourself or the industry too seriously. I’ve been a model most of my adult life but I have tried to never let my identity be consumed or my self-worth be wrapped up in the way I look or what jobs I’m booking. If I did, I don’t think I’d have been able to stick it out in what can be a very tough industry. I’m grateful to the new team I have joined at MHI for navigating this next chapter as a mature aged model in an ever-changing industry. I love this job for all the different people I’ve met along the way.
BC: The expectations of clients in regard to models having a sizeable social media following is massive, how has this affected your career?
LT: Oh boy! Yes indeed, I totally underestimated the power of social media. I came from the old school train of thought that you didn’t want your image to oversaturate a market and to be honest I still prefer that. I think maintaining a level of mystery is more appealing, I honestly don’t want to see what and where everyone is eating, wearing, holidaying, getting a wax at. Personally I get bored of seeing the same thing over and over. However, I understand it’s the new way and has been key in so many careers. I have definitely given it a lame attempt but it’s not cool.
“Give me the Kate Moss era of fashion any day when there was a curtain of mystery between us.

BC: As a model having good skin is a must, talk us through your morning & evening skincare rituals
LT: I believe what you eat and how you treat your body has more of an effect on the health and appearance of my skin, with that said I have a stupid amount of skincare.
Barbara Sturm enzyme cleanser
I love this cleanser so much, my skin feels thoroughly cleansed and prepped to absorb the following products.

Sunscreen
I love this sunscreen it’s the only one I’ve found I don’t break out with. It’s not waterproof though so I suggest a hat if working up a swear in the sun

Dermatologist prescribed
Univer Skin
I use two products, one for the day, and one for the night. Which have active ingredients specifically formulated for my skin. I have pigmentation since having a bub, which these serums target. It’s a great system it’s not cheap but it’s worth it.
Internally I take a Food sourced multivitamin, probiotics. I also swear by, my daily smoothie I’ve been drinking for years, honestly, I think I’ve made this for every one of my friends at some point.
Consisting of berries, banana, leafy greens, cacao powder, chia seed, and oat milk. Loaded with antioxidants it’s a delicious way to nourish your body quickly and easily every day, Gracie loves it too.
BC: Collectively we are trying to move towards a greener and more ethical beauty industry, is this something that is important to you when considering products for yourself and your daughter?
LT: Ideally I like products in glass bottles, and ones that avoid animal testing, I really should and could be more mindful. I avoid buying unnecessary packaging. In regard to Gracie I’ve been a nut since the moment of conception, I painfully read all labels and ingredients. I love a store here called Credo, my makeup bag contains lots of products by RMS and Ilia https://credobeauty.com/
BC: You live in NYC, do you have a ‘go-to’ beauty person and a ‘must-have’ beauty treatment?
LT: I had been seeing LING spa for many years, I love their products and they offer industry discounts which is nice. However, my go-to is Dr. Saras in Sydney who’s been keeping my complexion clear and appearance youthful with a few tweaks. I’m very conservative with procedures, as I fear looking unnatural but I won’t lie, after a couple of very stressful years I needed a bit of help. Including laser therapy and small amounts of Botox.
BC: Looking after your skin can be a pricey affair, do you have any secret ‘save’ products you swear by?
LT: Again it’s more about what you put into your body that reflects healthy skin, so if you smoke I’d suggest saving yourself the cash and your skin. I do love these MicrodermaMitt for the face though, for $30 it’s a great tool for keeping skin super soft.

BC: As an Aussi gal I'm sure you have a huge appreciation of sunscreen, have you found one that delivers what you need without clogging your skin?
LT: Aesop is a favorite also I’m a big hat wearer
BC: I always think of you as the quintessential beach babe, how do you keep in such great shape?
LT: I eat well and I’m consistent with it but not controlling. If I want to enjoy a decadent meal I’m not going to beat myself up, I’ll just be mindful to balance out when I overindulge... quarantine life is definitely making it a lot harder though. I’ve never been super strict with myself I find that causes stress and that in itself has a negative effect on the body releasing cortisol etc. I have a gym membership that includes a daycare so I’ll try to work out for an hour 4/5 days a week. Doing weight training definitely made a difference.
BC: Have you managed to keep your exercise regimen going during isolation? It must be hard with your daughter Gracie being so young.
LT: Ummmmm… yeah, let’s blame Gracie! I’ve been so lazy! I do take her for long walks most days and I’ll do a pathetic attempt at sit-ups. I’m confident once we lift the restrictions I’ll get back on track. There are some great apps and programs these days… I follow ‘Sweat by Kayla’ and Gracie’s dad has just launched ‘CooperFit’ which is offering an intense 6-week program, which I should be doing.
BC: In terms of makeup are you an eyes or lips gal?
LT: I’m more focused on the skin, but I'd choose eye over lip… with a defined brow.
BC: What is your favourite night out makeup look?
LT: Winged eyeliner or a wine-stained lip.
BC: Talk us through your everyday makeup look, I’m sure it’s less elaborate since you had Gracie…
LT: EYEBROWS!! Even during this isolation, I will brush my brows at least 3 times a day. I will curl my lashes and pop on a light coat of mascara, YSL touché, and RMS cheek tint with a lip balm.
BC: You are a natural beauty, what foundation / tinted moisturizer do you wear?
LT: Less is more as my skin matures… (it’s not aging it’s just growing up)… I find if I wear anything more than a concealer it just sinks into the fine lines and makes me look older, so I just use a spot concealer in areas that the skin tone is uneven.

BC: Modelling for so many years, I’m sure you learned so much about the beauty industry, what's the best tip you were ever given?
“Invest in your skin and leave your brows natural”
