Colour Comeback

Beauty has been put on the back burner in recent times but with light at the end of the tunnel, will we continue with the understated look we have been accustomed to or will there be a resurgence to bold full glam.

Colour has the power to uplift, not only the way we feel but also the way we look. A jolt of colour to the eye or lip can add much-needed vibrancy, particularly as we transition between seasons

The decadence and opulence of the 80’s seems to hold such allure, especially now, we seem nostalgic for those heady carefree days. Although a nod to this era is fun we need to recreate these trends in a modern, wearable way. A jolt of colour can be added in different ways, from bold mono shapes, graphic lines to more softly blended hues. Tecnicoloured lids and bold bright eyeshadow are not for everyone, if you are looking for colour without the pazzazz reach for coloured mascara or eyeliner to get your colour fix.

Coloured liner is a great way to add vibrancy to the face in a more subtle way. For the novice, use a soft kohl on the water line or on the lash line and soften with a smudge of shadow to secure it. For the more adventurous choose a coloured liquid liner, this takes a little practise so tidy up any mishaps with an eye makeup-remover-soaked fine cotton bud.

There are two ways to ensure the longevity of a bright eye shadow effect, and for extra intensity I sometimes use both techniques. Priming the lid prepares the skin for the pigment to be applied. For increased staying power and vibrancy blend a similar shade kohl liner across the lid creating a stronger shape for the eye shadow to adhere to.

Coloured mascara quite often looks great on the wand but unless applied to blonde lashes can fall flat. Adding white mascara first not only bulks up the lashes but also primes them allowing the true colour to shine through.
