The classic bold lip is notoriously hard to pull off so here’s your guide to nailing it.
Prep. A bold lip needs a smooth and hydrated surface and as we transition between seasons lips become dry and chapped. Gently buffing the lips with sugar scrub with help prepare them for hydration.
Hydrate. Drink plenty of water to keep the skin hydrated and apply balm to the lips and allow 5 minutes to soak in.
Base. A lip primer can be really useful to provide longevity and a smooth surface.
Lip liner. Most lip liners have a waxy finish which helps contain bold colours within the line to prevent bleeding. Follow the lip line, or just slightly overdraw, using small strokes. When you have created the perfect shape sharpen the line with a Q tip
Lip brush. Applying lipstick straight from the bullet is hard to control, using a lip liner allows more precision and blends the lipstick not only into the lips but also the lipliner. Applying in a thin layer from the centre outwards will limit the smudge factor
Blot. Blotting the lipstick with a single sheet of tissue will remove some of the oil and help it stay put. If it still feels too moist powdering over the tissue will help
Conceal. Using a small brush and concealer clean up along the lip line to create a crisp edge
