Foundations have evolved dramatically, formulations no longer just promising simple complexion coverage. The Beauty companies promise amazing skincare benefits, youthful glow, and mattifying finishes… is it time to re-evaluate your favourite? Is your old option still your best option?

SKIN TYPE

Dry skin - Choose a formula promising hydration inducing glow. Steer clear of anything in the long-lasting range, as this will encourage flaking skin.

Oily skin - Avoid any foundations that are overly dewy. Instead, steer towards a long-lasting or matte finish

Combo skin - Use an oil control, lightweight formula which will hold off the shine without causing the skin to become flaky.

Acne skin - Look for a foundation that won’t clog pores. Choose either a natural mineral powder or one with a built-in skin treatment that will help heal the problem areas as well as providing coverage.

SKIN FINISH

Sheer coverage - A lightweight product that you can apply just where you feel you need it. It leaves the skin with a dewy, natural glow.

Full coverage - A slightly thicker consistency that instantly conceals redness and imperfections

Long-lasting - These fall into the more full coverage range and tend to have a more powdery finish.

UNDERTONE

Does your skin have a cool, warm or neutral undertone? If you aren’t sure there is an old trick that works pretty well. The veins on your wrist tend towards either a blue or green shade. Blue indicates a cool undertone (pink) and green indicates warm (yellow) if the colour is Indistinguishable this probably indicates a neutral palette.

SPF

Do you need a foundation that has built-in SPF or do you prefer the option of applying your trusted favourite.

CRUELTY-FREE

Is being a kindness warrior an important part of your decision process.

APPLICATION

Are you a beauty blender, kabuki brush, or fingers kinda gal? Different types of foundations respond better to specific styles of applicators.
