Tell us a little about yourself and how you got your start in modeling?

  • I’m 20 years old.

  • I grew up in Palmerston North.

  • I was scouted at 14- years old by my mother agent on Instagram. I was ecstatic and flew to Auckland to take digitals and signed with 62 Management. Shortly after this I signed in Sydney with Chic, and then New York with the Lions. I moved to New York when I turned 18 and have been here ever since!

What is your morning/evening skincare regime?

  • I cleanse with either the Cetaphil Gel Cleanser, or the Peter Thomas Roth Acne Clearing Wash. I like to use this one every other day as it is a little less gentle on the skin, but is packed with salicylic acid which is a wonderful ingredient to deeply cleanse. I then use the Barbara Sturm Glow Drops, and moisturise with the Barbara Sturm light moisturiser. At night I remove any makeup from the day with Bioderma Micella Water. I then cleanse and apply serums. First, I pat a little Antioxidant Energising Essence by 111Skin using a cotton pad. Then I go in with the THEOREM REPAIR LIGHT SERUM by 111Skin, followed by Barbara Sturm Hyaluronic Serum, the Kheil’s Creamy Eye Treatment, and finish with the Barbara Sturm Moisturiser. Once or twice a week I also use Goop’s Instant Facial to exfoliate the skin.

Splurge/save products?

Save:

-Cetaphil Gel Cleanser.

  • Weleda -Skinfood Cream.

  • Weleda -Skinfood Matcha Moisture Sticks, (I keep this in my purse and it can be used as a lip balm or under the eyes, it's great on the go!)

  • Carmex -Lip Balm.

Splurge:

I splurge on serums. Unlike cleansers, serums and moisturisers stay on the skin and are where I like to spend a little more.

I am lucky to have been gifted a lot of these products, but I would absolutely buy them over and over. My Goop Exfoliating facial, Hyaluronic Serum, and 111Skin Serums are my go-to’s.

Can’t live without products?

  • Skinfood Weleda Cream

  • Kheil’s Creamy Eye Cream

  • Goop Exfoliating Instant Facial

  • Chanel Baume Multi-use Glow Stick. This is my favorite makeup product right now, it is the best natural looking highlighter and I love it!

  • Chanel Soleil Tan, for the best glowing, bronzed look.

Most brands are starting to introduce ethically sourced products. Is this something important to you?

Absolutely! I think it's fantastic that brands and consumers are realising the impact of unethical products. In the past, I was definitely ignorant of what went into products, but now I’m trying to educate myself to make more informed decisions about what I’m using.

Do you use sunscreen every day in the summer? What do you use?

Yes, absolutely! Especially in NZ because the sun is so harsh. I use Barbara Sturm Sun Drops.

As a model you have makeup applied for work, do you wear makeup on your days off?

I love makeup and having fun with makeup for events or celebrations. On my days off I typically wear a little concealer under my eyes, Laura Mercier translucent powder, Chanel multi-use glow stick and my Fenty Lip Gloss. I also have days where I wear none at all to let my skin breathe a little.

Working with so many different artists you must have picked up indispensable beauty advice, please share…

The best tip I have picked up has been… taking time to prep the skin. I find when makeup artists go straight into foundation without prepping a good base; the makeup doesn’t sit well on the skin. Another tip that took me a little while to master was the winged liner. I love how it elongates the eye. I was taught to use a tiny brush and gel liner - going from the very inner corner all the way out to create a subtle flick. I love this look and think it is super sexy.

In 2018 you walked the VS show. That must have been life-changing. Did you find it intimidating, walking in underwear with some of the most famous models in the world?

I wouldn’t say it was intimidating, as all the women were so kind and welcoming. However, it was definitely a nerve-wracking experience! Once it was over, it almost felt like a dream that didn’t happen! It is such a blur now.

We worked together a few months before your VS casting and you were working hard on your body, talk me through how you prepped physically for this job.

My approach was to look and feel my personal best. I tried to not compare myself to others and be the best version of myself. I cut out all sweets and had a diet that comprised protein and vegetables. As for exercise, I boxed almost every day at Gotham Gym and went to Pilates, yoga, and dance classes.

The industry is tough on models; you started when you were so young and yet you are so well adjusted, how do you keep your head straight when people constantly judge you? Is this something you actively work on, maintaining your sanity, self-esteem and keeping your confidence intact?

Hahaha, thank you! I think this industry has taught me a lot of lessons. The hardest part of moving to New York was being thrown in the deep end and having to learn how to navigate the industry the hard way. I always say I couldn’t have made the move and committed to this job without a supportive family. I feel very lucky to have parents that could come visit me often in my first year and could talk me down when I wanted to give up. I absolutely struggled with rejection at the beginning and still do. Now I approach modeling as a job and nothing else. I made a conscious decision to separate it from me as a person, and that has helped me immensely. Now if I don’t book something, I recognize the client is simply looking for something else and that’s ok. On to the next one!

Tell us a makeup skill you have mastered on yourself…

Winged liner.

And a makeup skill you are yet to master…

The perfect red lip! I always muck it up and ruin the makeup around my mouth...
